Welcome to the IACO Project’s Web Page!

The primary goal of IACO Project is to bring back to consciousness to the population of the importance that has to preserve the nocturnal dark skies from our earth. Also, to show the negative consequences that imply the incorrect lighting systems of our streets, whose immediate implications for the citizenship are to pay more tax money as a result of the inadequate use of the power resources, failing to take an appropiate advantage of these when correctly not illuminating our streets, monuments and our environmental surroundings.

As citizens, all of us can collaborate to improve the quality of our nocturnal skies. With this project we are proposing you to participate in campaigns of star counting in constellations during precise dates in 2010. The process is very easy and in this page we explain the steps for you to follow. We’ll provide you with the needed charts and registry parts for the observations, and also with the dates in which we are going to realise the measures (see Instructions). Our goal is to obtain a map of Spain in which we can find the best places to observe the nocturnal skies free of light pollution, and at the same time to focus on those places where the light contamination is greater., where it needs to be reduced. In order to secure these aims we are asking for your co-operation. In this project the voluntary and massive participation is very important; the more data we contribute with, the better and more precise will be the Spain’s Darks Skies Chart coming out from our observations.

The observation proposed campaigns of observation for 2010 are organizad in dates close to the the New Moon for not suffering interferente from the light of the Moon in our measurements.
